Writing Class

After a much anticipated wait, our class books finally arrived! We are now published authors!

Naturally, the first things that the kids wanted to do was run over and show Oreo the stories they wrote about him.

He was a good sport about it all...

 The "Goggles of Criticism"

It's always hard to get the students to reread their stories and revise them. One day we came up the metaphor of putting on the "Goggles of Criticism." When we wear these imaginary goggles of criticism, we are able to edit our work as if we have never seen it. Well, thanks to the handy-dandy dollar store, these goggles have come to life! I think the kids seem to like using them too!

Valentine's Day 2013

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year....

Lily even remembered to share some of the love with Oreo.

We kicked off the holidays with a Game Day.

This party would not have been possible without the planning of Julianne Cortese and Tracy Tabb. Thank you and everyone who came to make this day so special for the kids.

All of our tasty treats :)

Table 4

Fun paper plate game. The kids were asked to draw certain items while the plate was on top of their heads. At the end, points were awarded based on how "accurate" their drawings were. They were just tickled by this.

Christmas Word Scramble Game

 Who am I? Game

A tag was placed on the children's backs with the name of a certain Christmas character. They had to walk around the classroom asking yes or no questions to attempt to figure out which character they were given.

November 2012

There was a lot to look forward to in this month! Right before we breaked for Thanksgiving, the students learned how to use dialogue in their writing. In order to get it down pat, the kids made paper bag turkeys and wrote a brief script with a partner. This month we also prepared for the holidays by participating in Operation Christmas Child. The students (and of course their parents) gathered items to be placed in a shoe box. These shoe boxes were then collected and will be delivered to a child in need all across the globe. What a great lesson in selflessness!
